Two out of the three of us are dual British-American citizens (yes, I do feel left out, especially since immigration is my field). Dual citizen Julian hasn't voiced any opinions on the holiday, but dual citizen Sam, having lived here 4.5 years and seen his opinions change, hopes that the U.S. will return to the tenets of its heritage that made it so great. If England had to lose to someone, he reckoned, he hopes that country will do great things with its victory.
I do too.
Happy Independence Day - and a deep thank you to the thousands of men and women (and their families) who fought for and maintain our freedom - and a deep prayer that our country, the United States of America, will ever return to its God, its only true source of freedom and justice.
